Independent living center provides quick access to attendant services
Long wait times for services often force individuals into nursing homes. But with the support of Personal Attendant Services (PAS), individuals in need of care can often continue living in their homes.
Delta Center cuts the average 30-60 day wait for consumer-directed attendant services to 7 business days with the new Fastrak PAS program. According to Nancy Murphy, Executive Director, "Making decisions about health care is difficult and shouldn't be complicated by considerations about long wait times. Fastrak PAS addresses this issue so that individuals can truly choose where to live and who will provide their care."
If an individual wants to remain in their home, cared for by people he or she chooses, PAS is one option to consider. "PAS can fill in the gaps to address unmet needs, allowing individuals to continue to live at home," says Murphy. "PAS participants and their families often talk about the quality time they were able to share as a result of the program."
PAS gives individuals the ability to select and manage their caregiver(s) rather than relying on the services of an agency. Sometimes family members who quit their jobs in order to provide care can be paid through PAS to be a personal attendant.
Eligibility for PAS-also referred to as Consumer Directed Services or CDS-requires participants to:
-- Be at least 18 years of age
-- Have a significant physical disability
-- Be able to direct their own care (mentally capable of and willing to
recruit, hire, and manage personal attendants)
-- Need at least a nursing facility level of care
-- Be eligible for and receiving MO Health Net (Medicaid)
Individuals interested in learning more about the Fastrak PAS program should call Delta Center at (636) 926-8761, ext 227 for program details and eligibility information.
